We sit down with author, video creator, and stylist, Anh Lin ahead of the release of her new book, Forever Home, to discuss creativity and the role that art and making can play in our journeys of healing. A multi-faceted and interdisciplinary talent, Anh’s work is thoughtful and contemplative in all its mediums, serving as a point of connection not only to her audience but also her relationship with God. We delve into her creative process, the role of spirituality in her work, and her journey as a writer.

Describe a day in the life when you are creating. What are your typical rhythms and habits?

I always start my day with a routine of prayer, skincare, and matcha. My days are greatly impacted by how I spend my mornings, so this is the perfect combination for a refreshing and productive rest of the day. I then typically head to my husband's office for our swift but intentional time of connection. We say our morning greetings and update each other on what we have going on for the rest of the day.

Afterward, I head over to my office, check my emails, and then get straight to work. You can find me either writing a book, painting, or editing a video. I get off work around 5 pm to walk my corgi, Ollie, and eat dinner with my husband. At night, I typically use my free time to get inspired by other creators and find inspiration for my future content.

What is the first step of your creative process?

I always try to list out all of my ideas before I create anything. It allows me to brainstorm more efficiently and organize these ideas into categories. After brainstorming and categorizing, I start researching. Finally, I create the actual thing. When I wrote Forever Home I used this exact method. I had a habit of taking notes of quotes, personal stories, and interesting events in my life, so when it became time to write the book, I had quite the arsenal of ideas to draw from.

Do you see spirituality as connected to your creative process?

Absolutely. My faith is at the center of everything that I'm involved in—creatively and relationally. I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the saving grace of Jesus. I was in a terrible depression before encountering Jesus and felt utterly lost and hopeless. He renewed my sense of worth and gave me real purpose. To this day, my utmost goal in life is to convey the sweetness of God to all people. I do this by creating peaceful, trauma-informed devotional videos on Youtube, and sharing therapeutic DIYs on Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. Now, I get to tell my story of healing in Forever Home.

So much of your work seems to revolve around writing. How did you come to that medium?

Whether I'm scripting videos, writing books, or promoting my products, my entire business is built on effective communication. I actually developed my love for writing in a Remedial English class at my local community college. Before then, I never knew how to translate my thoughts into writing in a way that would profoundly impact others. That class solidified my decision to major in English. Writing has become the foundational medium in which I create all other artwork and products.

Would you say you feel “called” to writing, or to creating in general? What does the notion of “calling” mean to you?

I believe in vocational callings and that they can change from season to season. I truly believe that I'm exactly where I need to be in this season to glorify him the most, but that might change in the future. He created me to be creative, just like him, so I'm always open to where he calls me next.

What is one piece of art you think everyone should experience at least once in their lives?

How about reading Forever Home? I'm just kidding, though I wouldn't mind if you do!

Truthfully, I think everyone should travel to their dream location and experience the people, culture, and landscape there. We are all a part of creation, AKA God's artwork, so it should be the greatest honor and most life-changing [work of art] you can experience to get to know other extraordinary people.

Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring Christian artists who want to integrate their faith into their creative work?

My main advice is to be gentle but unapologetic with your faith. It's not about forcing people to believe what you believe, but about sharing aspects of God that deeply resonate with you. The more you focus on your authentic relationship with God and express that through your art, the more your authenticity will resonate with your core audience.
